Dan Hallock was born in Florida but grew up in Montana, where he was awarded
a trumpet scholarship in high school. Dan received a Minor in Music while
earning his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute in Troy, New York.
Dan was active in both the RPI Jazz Ensemble
and Symphony, and was a founding member of the RPI Brass Quintet. He has
performed with the Great Falls Symphony and the Redwood Symphony. Dan
played with local 19-piece big bands including the Stanford University Studio Jazz
Band, Tuesday Night Live, and the Lyratones. He currently plays split lead

Dan spent 14 years at Ampex Corp. in various engineering and engineering management positions, where he developed ten different digital data and video magnetic recording systems. He was awarded both the Alexander M. Poniatoff Silver Award and the Allied Signal Corporate Technical Achievement Award for outstanding contribution in the development of the Super High Bit Rate Recorder.
For 14 years, Dan worked as Director of Design and Systems Engineering within Boston Scientific's Electrophysiology Business (originally at Cardiac Pathways Corporation, acquired by Boston Scientific in 2001), where he designed many advanced catheters and several systems for diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias.
Dan is now Director of R & D (and fourth employee) at a recently launched
medical device start-up company in Menlo Park, Miramar Labs, Inc., an early-stage
medical device company. Miramar is developing electromechanical solutions to
serve a significant market opportunity. We plan to launch breakthrough technology
to a fast-paced market. Miramar is the newest portfolio company from The Foundry®,
the premier medical device company incubator for inventors to transform their
concepts into companies.
Dan resides in Redwood City with his wife, Janet, and
sons, David (20) and Joey (18). Janet does web design (and upkeep) and technical
editing for SyntheSys Research, Inc. David plays piano and 'cello while studying
mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Joey plays
classical and jazz violin and piano while also studying mechanical engineering
at UC Irvine. While not being Dad, husband, inventor, or musician, Dan is an
avid fan of Formula One and Champ Cars open wheel racing.
